TEDxPhnom Penh

Bringing Khmer ideas worth spreading to the world

About this project

The idea

TEDxPhnom Penh is an independently organized TED event, held in Phnom Penh under licence from TED.

It gives Cambodian ideas a large international stage and a real audience. Each edition brings together speakers from Cambodia and abroad - entrepreneurs, researchers, engineers, educators, artists, and people whose concrete action is worth sharing - and asks each of them to present one idea clearly, in front of a live audience, within a fixed amount of time. The talks are filmed and published on the ted.com platform, so an idea heard by several hundred people in a room can continue to reach people long after the event.

Our team carefully selects speakers around an annual theme, works with each of them on the idea itself, on structure, and on delivery, and produces the event with the help of a volunteer crew and a group of local partners.

TEDxPhnom Penh runs in two formats. The annual conference is a full-day event with a broad theme: Sustainable Future in 2024, and Resilience and Reinvention in 2025, held on 12 October 2025 at the Canadian International School on Koh Pich with 14 speakers and more than 20 performers, supported by partners including OMOHUB, the Cambodia-Israel Chamber of Commerce, Toyota Cambodia, and ACLEDA Bank.

The Salon format is shorter, built around a single subject, and is focused on discussion and exchange. In September 2026, the first TEDxPhnom Penh Salon was held as part of the 3rd Cambodia Digital Trade Forum Expo, organized by the Ministry of Commerce at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Center, with talks on digital trade, technology-enabled commerce, cybersecurity, inclusive growth, and Cambodia's role in the regional digital economy.

The audience is deliberately mixed: students, founders, professionals, companies, and public institutions in the same room, hearing the same arguments, and engaging in meaningful discussions.

Why now?

Cambodia's 2030 and 2050 objectives depend on people who build companies, teach, do research, and run institutions. Many of those people are already here and already doing the work. What is often missing is a structure that allows ideas sharing, debates, and dynamic exchanges. Also, a local stage changes who tells the story, which in terms changes what a young audience believes is possible.

In addition, public speaking is also a skill, and it is one that Cambodian professionals rarely get to practise at this level. Preparing speakers for a TEDx stage builds that capacity directly, one speaker at a time.
